Washington, D.C.(Published: 2:26 AM PT - July 15, 2017) -- The Trump administration released a 13-page internal memo on new illegal immigration guidelines, in May. The Department of Homeland Security said the new guidelines are a draft. No firm decisions have been made regarding the new guidelines. The changes "would allow DHS to more efficiently use resources to remove persons who have been illegally present for relatively brief periods of time while still observing due-process requirements." Under the new guidelines, Illegal Immigrants who are detained and cannot prove they have lived in the US for more than 90 days would face expedited deportations. A Bush administration change in 2004 permitted the DHS to move to expel immigrants nabbed within 100 miles of the border; living in the US for less than two weeks. The new rule would apply to immigrants anywhere in the US. The White House has also shelved an Obama administration policy that protected illegal immigrants with no criminal records and who were parents of US citizens.

"Race Was Not A Factor" ~ 2017!

Tulsa, OK -- {May 17, 2017} After nine hours of deliberations, a jury acquitted white Tulsa police Officer Betty Shelby in the shooting death of Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man. The incident, which took place in September 2016, was one of a number of police shootings of unarmed black men across the United States in recent years that have heightened concerns about possible police misconduct. Shelby said that she fired out of fear when she killed Crutcher, who had his hands above his head. Before issuing a verdict Wednesday night, the nine white jurors and three black jurors asked the judge if they could explain their verdict in court. The judge told them they can only announce their verdict in court, not explain it, but said they were free to explain publicly after the trial concluded. After the verdict, Shelby left without making a statement as Crutcher's family tearfully left the courtroom.

Blinded by White Supremacy ~ 2017!
St. Paul, MN {PUBLISHED: June 6, 2017 at 10:33 pm | UPDATED: June 7, 2017 at 02:13 am} -- A Minnesota police officer who fatally shot a black motorist told a supervisor on the scene that he didn't know where the motorist's gun was, but added that he told the motorist to get his hand off the firearm, according to audio recorded after the shooting. The audio is key evidence in the manslaughter trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez, who shot Philando Castile last July in a St. Paul suburb. Prosecutors argue Yanez acted unreasonably; his attorneys say he feared for his life and made a split-second decision in the presence of a gun. Yanez and another officer had stopped Castile over a broken taillight when the 32-year-old elementary school cafeteria worker informed Yanez he was carrying a gun. Within seconds of hearing that, Yanez fired seven shots and Castile was mortally wounded. The shooting was one in a string involving police and black men nationally, and drew added attention because Castile's girlfriend streamed the aftermath on Facebook as he lay dying. Castile's family claimed he was profiled because of his race.

(Published: Thurs., April 13, 2017) — On Monday, Nandi Cain Jr. had just gotten off work and was headed to his Sacramento apartment when he noticed an officer approaching from behind him with his hand on his gun, according to police accounts, videos of the event and local news reports. Cain put his hands up as the officer approached, but continued to walk away slowly. He asked the police officer the reason for the stop, then protested when he heard it: “You were jaywalking,” the officer said on the dash-cam video released by the police department this week. “I looked both ways,” Cain replied. “You’re harassing me. I just got off work. You’re trying to pull me over for nothing.” Click here for video

EL CENTRO, CA (WCJB) ~ United States The El Centro Police Department said it's investigating a video that shows officers using force on a suspect who put several people in danger Tuesday afternoon. The video shows officers beating 23-year-old Elizardo Saenz, an El Centro resident. It also shows a K-9 police dog attacking Saenz. (Click here for video)

Oakland, CA (WCJB) ~ United States -- A sex scandal involving Oakland police officers and a then underage girl has all the makings of a TV thriller. The saga is full of twists and turns. The scandal erupted months after Officer Brendan O'Brien committed suicide. O'Brien left a note spilling the details, including names. Three Oakland officers were placed on paid leave. A source said O'Brien in his suicide note confessed to exchanging messages with a young woman who goes by the name Celeste Guap. However, the note says he did not have sexual contact with her. The same sources said she has met multiple officers. In the note, O'Brien named the officers, including one sergeant, involved in the alleged sexual misconduct with Guap. Guap is the daughter of a Oakland police dispatcher. The police investigation will look at whether Guap was under age during some of the encounters with officers. (Click here for video)

New Orleans, LA (WCJB) ~ United States -- On September 4, 2005, New Orleans police received a call from an officer at Danziger Bridge reporting gunfire. Several NOPD officers—including Sgt. Kenneth Bowen, Sgt. Robert Gisevius, Officer Anthony Villavaso, and Officer Robert Faulcon—arrived at the scene in a Budget rental truck. They proceeded to open fire with assault rifles and a shotgun on an unarmed family, the Bartholomews, who had been walking to a grocery store and were then sheltering behind a concrete barrier. 17-year-old James Brissette—a family friend—was killed, and four other people were wounded. The police shooters stated that while approaching the bridge, they had been fired on by civilians, and were forced to return fire. Homicide detective Arthur "Archie" Kaufman was made the lead investigator on the case. He was later found guilty of conspiring with the defendants to conceal evidence in order to make the shootings appear justified, including fabricating information for his official reports on the case. NOPD lieutenant Michael Lohman also encouraged the officers to "provide false stories about what had precipitated the shooting" and plant a firearm near the scene. (Click here for video)

Aiken, S.C. (WCJB) ~ United States -- A horrifying new dashcam video shows at least one white member of the Aiken, S.C. Police Department search inside a black man’s rectum for the apparent crime of being a passenger in a car with paper tags, which, it bears noting, is not a crime in the state of South Carolina. Driving a car with paper tags isn’t illegal either, as long as they aren’t expired. The car belonged to a woman named Lakeya Hicks, who had the paper tags because she had recently purchased the vehicle. Hicks’ tags weren’t expired, and a check on her license came up clean. However, the cops didn’t let her go. (Click here for video)

Brooklyn, NY (WCJB) ~ United States -- When an unmarked police car drove very close to mailman Glenn Grays in Brooklyn, Grays shouted at the car. Gurley died more than 14 months ago, on November 20, 2014, as two cops were making a “vertical patrol,” checking the stairwells in the high-rise building. As Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Marc Fliedner put it, opening the prosecution’s case, “Akai Gurley is dead today because he crossed paths with Peter Liang.” Liang was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on manslaughter and other charges last February, and both prosecution and defense agree on the immediate events that led to Gurley’s death.(Click here for video)

Chicago, IL -- Surveillance video (Click here for video) in connection with a Chicago police officer's fatally shooting 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman was released today by attorneys for the teen's family. A federal judge ordered the release of footage showing the 2013 shooting today after the city withdrew its objection to its being made public. Chicago police officer Kevin Fry fatally shot Chatman Jan. 7, 2013, in broad daylight during a foot chase, according to court records. Chatman’s family had fought for the video to be released as part of a wrongful death lawsuit they filed over the shooting against the city, Fry and Chicago police officer Lou Toth, who pursued Chatman along with Fry during the foot chase. Family members have argued the video will counter the city and police’s narrative that the 17-year-old was a danger to police. IPRA concluded the officers' actions were justified because they reasonably believed Chatman was armed at the time.

Brooklyn, NY -- A newly-released surveillance video (Click here for video) contradicts an undercover NYPD police officer who arrested four people in Brooklyn for allegedly trying to rob him on Dec. 26, 2015, according to a defense lawyer. Jean Scott, 33; Peterson Duplan, 28; Ricardi Joseph, 29; and Samantha Dabel, 24, said that they were approached by a man who tried to buy drugs from them at a hardware store. The undercover cop was identified as Winston McDonald, who testified in court that Duplan allegedly flashed a switchblade at him outside of the store, and said, "Give me your money or I will stab you," according to court papers.

Forth Worth, TX -- The mother of ‘affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch was ordered released from a Tarrant County jail cell after a bond hearing this afternoon. She may be leaving the jail soon. Judge Wayne Salvant ordered her bond reduced to $75,000 with several conditions. The conditions include weekly visits with the Community Supervisions and Corrections Department of Tarrant County. She is also not to consume alcoholic beverages or use social media. “Let’s look at it for what it is, I understand everyone is concerned and there is outrage in the community… but as a judge I have to look at the law,” said Judge Salvant. Couch and her lawyers were present at a 2 p.m. bond hearing at the Tarrant County Justice Center hoping to have her bond reduced. Miami, FL ~ USA -- A Florida jury began weighing on Tuesday whether a man who killed his wife and posted a photo of her blood-spattered, lifeless body on Facebook committed first-degree murder. Attorneys for Derek Medina, 33, argued that he was acting in self-defense when he fired eight shots at Jennifer Alfonso, 27, in the kitchen of their Miami-area residence. The August 2013 shooting followed a fight in which she had threatened to leave, prosecutors said during closing statements. They argued that Medina retrieved a .380-caliber pistol from his bedroom and pulled the trigger repeatedly in a premeditated act of murder. "Every single shot hit her because he was aiming and he wanted her dead," said Assistant State Attorney Leah Klein in Miami-Dade County circuit court. Medina wrote on Facebook shortly before turning himself in: "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. My wife was punching me, and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did," he added in the post. (Click here for video)

Oklahoma City OK ~ USA -- A former Oklahoma City police officer was convicted Thursday of 18 of the 36 counts he faced, including four counts of first-degree rape, related to accusations that he victimized 13 women on his police beat in a minority, low-income neighborhood. Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, sobbed (Click here for video) as the verdict was read aloud. He could spend the rest of his life in prison based on the jury's recommendations, which include a 30-year sentence on each of the first-degree rape counts. Among the other charges he was convicted of were forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery and second-degree rape. Mayor Pro Tem!

Posted: May 4, 2015 | Updated: 07:39 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2015

Bell Gardens, CA -- Daniel Crespo was the mayor of Bell Gardens. He was hardly discreet about his extra-marital affairs. He bought one girlfriend a ring during a trip to Las Vegas for a faux wedding. He sent his wife an audio recording of him bragging to a co-worker about his dalliances. He rented out a six-bedroom home he owned. However, he kept one room empty so he could rendezvous there with women on his lunch breaks and after work. His wife, Lyvette Crespo, called the room his “man cave.” Last year Daniel died after a fatal shooting at the hands of Lyvette. The 46-year-old mayor, who also worked as a probation officer, was shot with his own 9-millimeter pistol, authorities said.

In April, a prosecutor told grand jurors that Lyvette knew about the numerous affairs. They were often the subject of angry and threatening texts. Grand jury transcripts made public provide new details about the mayor's tumultuous marriage to his childhood sweetheart. The transcripts detail his numerous infidelities and the criminal case prosecutors have made against his wife. Deputy Dist. Atty. Beth Silverman told grand jurorsthat Lyvette and Daniel Crespo had a “very rocky … very difficult, dysfunctional relationship.” .

During the hearing that led up to the indictment, Silverman said Daniel Crespo was obsessive about recording himself and his conversations with others. She detaialed one recording that captured an exchange with his wife in which he asked: “Why would you threaten to shoot me?” The prosecutor told grand jurors Lyvette responded, “Well, if you cheat, that's what I would do.”

The couple's son, Daniel Jr., testified before the grand jury. Daniel Jr. testified that moments before the shooting, his father punched him in the face. The punch knocked him down the stairs. He said he got up and ran down the remaining stairs to the interior door of the family's garage. As he reached it, he looked back and saw his mother on a landing above his father on the stairs. “That's when I saw him get shot,” Daniel Jr. testified. “I heard three gunshots and then saw him fall.”

He told grand jurors his father was abusive to his mother and his sister. On one occasion, he witnessed his sister being choked against a closet by their father. On another, he said, his father punched his mother in the face while they were driving home from church, believing that she had looked at another man. Daniel Jr. said he told a school counselor about the abuse in 2011. He testified that his father's violence toward his mother escalated in 2014. He said he remembered noticing her face was bruised a month before the shooting.

A Bell Gardens police officer testified that immediately after the shooting, Daniel Jr. told him that his mother had shot his father and then screamed, “No more!” Another officer testified that in explaining the shooting, Lyvette — who was shaking and crying — told him, “He was hurting us.”

Silverman, the prosecutor, told grand jurors that the Bell Gardens mayor mistreated his wife. “He goes out at night, he comes home, he treats her, like … a secretary,” Silverman said. “He treats her like she's his housekeeper.” Nevertheless, she said Lyvette repeatedly goaded her husband, showing that she did not fear for her own safety. “She is extremely angry with her husband, and possibly with very good reason,” Silverman said.

Silverman and another prosecutor presented the grand jury with texts between the couple. One included some in which Lyvette appeared to threaten her husband, according to the transcripts.

“I'll find out who … u got flowers for. Has to be a bell gardens whore,” read one of the messages sent to Daniel Crespo's phone number months before the shooting. “It better [be the] last time U threaten to shoot me in [the] head!!!” came the reply from Daniel Crespo's phone. “People don't like to be played with or be made a fool,” she responded, according to the court papers. “I've put up with a lot of.... Don't play with me.”

Silverman read texts she said were exchanged between the pair on the day of the shooting. The transcripts show that in the texts, Lyvette warned her husband about boasting of his affairs to his co-workers, the prosecutor said. “Rot in hell,” he responded in a profanity-laden text. “You will regret it.” After another brief exchange, he wrote to her at about 2 p.m.: “When I get home, let's see how you will respond.... With the rage I have, woman, you shouldn't be pushing my buttons.” The shooting occurred about half an hour later. In an anguished 911 call after the shooting, Daniel Jr. told a dispatcher: “He hurt me. He hurt me. He's on the floor dying. He hurt me.”

After hearing from prosecutors and numerous witnesses, the grand jury indicted Lyvette Crespo on a charge of voluntary manslaughter. She was also charged with an allegation that she was armed with a handgun at the time of the crime. Voluntary manslaughter is defined as killing without prior intent and during a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion. The court papers show Lyvette Crespo, 43, has pleaded not guilty.

Her lawyer has insisted that the killing was justifiable and in defense of Lyvette Crespo and her son. The lawyer said Lyvette Crespo had suffered decades of abuse by her husband and was trying to protect her son when she opened fire. When asked to comment on the transcripts, he said his client was frustrated by the affairs but also found that they brought a respite from the abuse. “It was a welcome relief when Daniel Crespo was off entertaining other women for his wife because she wouldn't be suffering abuse,” he said.

BELL GARDENS, Calif. (WCJB) -- Bell Gardens Mayor Daniel Crespo was fatally shot by his wife Levette Crespo, 43, Tuesday afternoon. The 45-year-old mayor was shot at a townhome in a gated complex in the 6300 block of East Gage Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. The shooting appears to be a result of a domestic dispute. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Steve Jauch says the mayor got into an argument with his wife. Their 19-year-old son tried to intervene. Daniel Crespo and his son, Daniel Crespo, Jr., began fighting. At this time Levette Crespo got a gun and shot her husband several times in the torso. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was shortly pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Levette Crespo was briefly detained for questioning. Authorities questioned both her and her son. Both are said to have went to the station voluntarily. No arrests were made. However, both were voluntarily staying at the Bell Gardens Police Department. The investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff's department is expected to present its case to the district attorney. The DA will determine if charges will be filed. Crespo had been a county deputy probation officer for the past 15 years. He was elected to the City Council in 2001.

The city website says Crespo married his high school sweetheart, Levette Crespo, in 1986. He had been married ever since.

"Squeezed like
a Lemon!"

April 13, 2012

Australia - Rebecca Helen Elder, 39, was recently ordered by an Australian court to stand trial on charges of breaking into the home of an unnamed man and raping him by “performing oral sex on the alleged victim without his consent.” Elder claims she is innocent. The next hearing is scheduled for April, and Corrupt Justice™ will report the latest news as it is available. We wondered if Rebecca Elder is the only woman who has been charged with raping a man. Is it actually possible to force a man to have sex against his will?

“Man Tries to Rob Hair Salon & Becomes a Sex Slave,” was called the “weirdest Russian crime story of the year” by the Moscow Times in 2009. The report states a female hair stylist in the Kaluga region allegedly held an armed robber in captivity as a sex slave for two days after he tried to rob her beauty salon. According to Life.ru, the saga began on the evening of March 14, 2009, as the stylist was closing her salon in the township of Meshchovsk.

The would-be robber was a 32-year-old man identified only as "Viktor.” Viktor reportedly burst into the salon around 5:00 p.m. waving a pistol and ordering all of the stylists and clients to hit the floor and toss him their money. The shop owner, 28-year-old Olga, was described as a "delicate" girl in appearance who was trained in martial arts. She remained standing. She offered to hand over her cash and lured Viktor closer. Olga then surprised him with a quick punch to the chest, causing him to drop the gun and knocking the wind out of him before she flipped him to the ground.

Olga tied Viktor’s hands with a hair-dryer cord, gagged him, and dragged him into a storage room, according to Life.ru. She also allegedly instructed the others to keep working and assured them that the police were on their way. The police did not come. And after the other stylists and clients went home, Olga told Viktor to take off his underwear and “let her do as she pleased” or she would call the cops and have him arrested for attempted robbery.

She then reportedly secured him to the radiator with handcuffs covered in frilly pink ribbons, gave him some Viagra and had sex with him a number of times over the next 48 hours. When she finally let him go on the evening of March 16, Viktor had been "squeezed like a lemon," Life.ru reported.

First, he went to the hospital for treatment for his injuries and then to the police, asking that Olga be brought up on criminal charges for committing "acts of a sexual nature against his will and injuring his sexual organs," according to a copy of his complaint posted on Life.ru website. When she read the complaint, Olga was reportedly incensed and stated she had been "very nice" to her purported captive.

Regarding the alleged sex acts, she is quoted by Life.ru as saying, "Yeah, there were a few times. But I bought him new jeans, gave him food and drinks, and 1,000 rubles when he left." The following day, Olga filed a complaint with police (which was also posted on-line) charging Viktor with the salon robbery. I don't know what's going to happen now," a local police officer told Life.ru. "We could put both of them behind bars: him for robbery, her for rape and assault."

STOCKTON, CA - Heidi Kaeslin (pictured left) the Lincoln High School special-education teacher fired in February amid an avalanche of allegations she was operating pornographic websites on a school district computer, is contesting her dismissal by Lincoln Unified. The district, meanwhile, on Wednesday released a graphically detailed 15-page "statement of charges" against Kaeslin in compliance with a California Public Records Act request by media sources. Among Lincoln's Unified allegations are that the 36-year-old Kaeslin's district-issued Apple laptop contained "thousands" of pornographic images and videos; about 75 files "related to adult entertainment and pornography businesses" and websites she and her boyfriend were developing; about 100 photos, mostly of her daughters who are now 2 and 4 years old "in naked and sometimes provocative poses;" a video of a young woman who "could likely have been under the age of 18" engaged in a sex act; a "racist" cartoon that includes Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and the use of the N-word; a drawing by Kaeslin mocking special-education students; and nearly 400 images of Kaeslin "in sexual poses, minimally dressed." Of the photos of her children, the district quotes Kaeslin as saying, "Who doesn't have pictures of their kids in the bathtub?" But the district says some photos featured the young girls in potentially sexually suggestive poses.

The Lincoln Unified document also says Kaeslin kept in her classroom "a large stack" of model "release" forms to be signed by women willing to expose their breasts for her websites; that she spent "an inordinate amount of time" on a Lincoln Unified cell phone during class time speaking to her boyfriend and business partner, since-retired Stockton Police officer Richard Fields; and that she sometimes would take the district's laptop home during the school day to work on the pornographic websites.

On Feb. 29, after receiving a district-created report on Kaeslin's alleged misconduct, Lincoln's Unified board voted unanimously to fire her. Lincoln's report says the district was notified of Kaeslin's activities Oct. 6 by a private investigator working on behalf of her ex-husband. The district quickly placed Kaeslin on paid leave during its own investigation. The report says she initially lied when asked about some of the allegations against her, but she ultimately admitted to many of them. She also acknowledged, according to the district, that pornography was "probably not an appropriate business venture for a public school teacher." The report says Kaeslin told district investigators the "racist" cartoon was "probably from a text message" from Fields. According to the district, Kaeslin said she was "just joking around" when she drew a picture on her classroom whiteboard of a special-education child face-down in a receptacle marked "worthless trash." The laptop included a photograph of the drawing, according to the report. "As a special education teacher," the document says, "such conduct is appalling." Lincoln's Unified document says Kaeslin was fired for multiple violations of California Education Code pertaining to morality, "unfitness for service," dishonesty and persistent violations of regulations.

"Our governing board has forwarded the statement of charges to the California Teaching Commission," Lincoln Unified Superintendent Tom Uslan said Wednesday in his only comment on the matter. "The teacher has requested a hearing on these charges."

About one month later, Kaeslin submitted paperwork to the district demanding a hearing on the charges against her. The hearing, which could be months away, will be held before a three-member panel. One panelist will be a special-education teacher chosen by Lincoln and the second will be a special-education teacher selected by Kaeslin. The third panelist will be an administrative law judge. After the panel issues its ruling, the losing party will have the option to appeal the matter in San Joaquin County Superior Court. Kaeslin's attorney did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Osceola, Fla. -- A former Osceola High School teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, the Kissimmee Police Department reported Thursday. Detectives began investigating Kacy Christine Wilson (pictured left) in October when they learned she was possibly having a relationship with a 16-year-old, police said. The teenager initially denied the relationship and detectives attempted to interview Wilson, but she resigned and moved to Colorado. The case was inactivated due to lack of evidence.

Last month, the teenager told school officials about his relationship with 28-year-old Wilson, police said. The teen spoke with detectives and also provided investigators with inappropriate photos Wilson recently sent him.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Wilson on charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and a child pornography charge. She was arrested in Salida, Colo. and will be extradited to Osceola County.

Fresno, Calif. (WCJB) -- A Fresno high school teacher is facing six felony charges for allegedly having sex with an underage student. Fresno County prosecutors filed the charges Monday against Megan Denman (pictured above, center) a social studies teacher at Hoover High School. The alleged sex acts occurred between July 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2011. The local media reports that Denman is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Tuesday. The teacher was arrested on April 9 and released the next day after posting $55,000 bail. Denman's face was covered as she walked out of jail. Officials at Fresno Unified School District say Denman is on paid administrative leave and is barred from district campuses.

In a press release, the Fresno Police Department said teacher was booked on one count of sex with a minor and two counts involving sexual acts. Police say the inappropriate relationship was with one student and detectives have not found evidence that there are other victims.

In the statement, Fresno Unified Superintendent Michael Hanson acknowledged cases of inappropriate student/teacher relationships in other parts of the state. He then went on, "Unfortunately, we have learned of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student in our own district. Words cannot describe my deep disappointment in this alleged breach of teacher/student relationship," said Hanson.

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WCJB) - A former Tuscaloosa teacher, Jennifer Hawk Elebash (pictured left) turned herself into police Thursday after being indicted by a grand jury on multiple sex charges involving a student. Elebash is charged with one count of Attempted School Employee Engaging in a Sex Act or Deviant Sexual Intercourse with a Student Under the Age of 19 Years Old, one count of School Employee Having Sexual Contact with a Student Under the Age of 19 Years Old and one count of Harassment, according to the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Elebash taught Spanish at Central High School in Tuscaloosa. Police say the student involved in the allegations was 16 years old at the time of the incident. Elebash, now 41, was 40 years old at the time of the incident. Police will not confirm whether or not the victim was in Elebash's class. Police say another student knew about what happened between Elebash and the victim and that student came forward to school officials in October 2011. The allegations launched an investigation led by the Tuscaloosa Police Juvenile Investigators.

Sergeant Michael Chaisson with TPD says because the age of sexual consent in Alabama is 16, in the past there was nothing authorities could do if a teacher had a relationship with a student 16 or older. Thanks to the new law, they're able to charge teachers when they're accused of having sex with a student 16 and older.

Elebash turned herself into the Tuscaloosa Police Department at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, April 19. She was arrested and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond of $10,000.

The Tuscaloosa City School System released a statement Thursday afternoon on Elebash's arrest, saying their investigation into the allegations led, in part, to the police investigation. According to the school system, Elebash was placed on leave and taken out of the classroom on Sept. 30, 2011, due to allegations made by a student. "The allegations were immediately reported to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the Department of Human Resources and the Alabama Department of Education. The Tuscaloosa Police Department handled the investigation from that point forward," the statement says.

The Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent notified Elebash he was recommending her termination on Oct. 7, 2011. According to the school system, Elebash submitted a letter of resignation which the school board accepted during its October 11, 2011 meeting.

"The primary mission of the Tuscaloosa City School System is the protection of the children entrusted to its care. As a System, we were both shocked and saddened by these allegations. Behavior that places children at risk will not be tolerated," the statement says.

It's was Over!

Modesto, Calif. -- Jordan Powers, the California teen who made national news when she and her high school teacher moved in together, told media sources that the two are back together after a turbulent few weeks. The 18-year-old broke up with her 41-year-old boyfriend James Hooker after he was arrested earlier this month on charges of sexually abusing a student in 1998. He had previously left his family and his position at James Enochs High School in Modesto, Calif. to live with Powers, who was once one of his business students. The two started to share an apartment as Hooker took paid administrative leave from the school.

But after Hooker's arrest April 6, the teen's mother Tammie Powers helped her daughter pack her bags and move to Ohio with her. At the time, Jordan Powers told media source that she had "lost everything for this guy." Her departure didn't last. Hooker was released after posting $50,000 bail and called her "relentlessly," and the teen began talking with him daily, Tammie Powers told the media sources. Then Jordan decided to head back to California.

"She left on her own. She hired a cab and booked her own flight," Tammie Powers said, noting that her daughter has also cut off communication with relatives. "It is awful. This is what pedophiles, predators do. They isolate them from family."

Modesto, CA -- It’s over, says Jordan Powers, the 18-year-old high school student who quit school to move in with her teacher James Hooker, 41. Until February, Powers was a student at Enochs High School and Hooker was a business teacher and adviser to several campus clubs. The former couple has said their student-teacher relationship became romantic last fall, after Powers turned 18. Powers’ mother, Tammie Powers, vigorously opposed the relationship, using her Facebook account to berate Hooker and accuse him of wooing her daughter before she turned 18. Hooker was arrested by Modesto police Friday on charges of sexually assaulting another teenage girl 14 years ago. Hooker’s arrest Friday had nothing to do with his involvement with Jordan Powers. “He called me from jail and, yes, I told him that we’re done,” Powers told media sources on Saturday morning. “I lost everything for this guy. I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn’t agree with me.” Hooker posted $50,000 bail about 5 a.m. Saturday and was released from the Stanislaus County Jail, sheriff’s officials said.

The Modesto City Schools District suspended Hooker on Feb. 3 during an initial investigation. He left his wife and three daughters two weeks later and moved into an apartment in Modesto. He moved Powers out of her mother’s house and into the apartment days later. Tammie Powers said she discovered an estimated 8,000 text messages between the two dating to last summer. He resigned his teaching position the same day and remains unemployed. After local media sources published a story about their relationship, they appeared on several television shows to defend themselves. Jordan Powers has always maintained that her romance with Hooker did not begin until after her 18th birthday in September. She said in late February he was getting a divorce but that they had no plans to marry. She was working to finish her classes through independent study and had been accepted to Modesto Junior College, hoping to become a nurse. Tammie Powers kept up her social media campaign, appeared opposite them on one show and worked with Modesto Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen on legislation that would make such student-teacher relationships a crime in California, even if the student is 18.

Enochs High School student Jordan Powers, 18, left, and James Hooker, 41, a teacher who recently resigned from Enochs High School, talked about their relationship, February 28, 2012, during an interview, in Modesto, California.

Modesto police began their own investigation, even as Hooker and Jordan Powers became overnight media celebrities. Police say they have developed evidence that he was involved with a 17-year-old girl in 1998 while a teacher at Davis High School in Modesto. Police say the alleged victim was attending a local high school but was not a Davis student. Hooker appeared briefly in court Friday afternoon. He is charged with one count of oral copulation with a minor.

“He told me that he met her online and he hung out with her just as friends and then he went to her house and she came out of the bathroom naked and he only touched her boobs and her legs,” Jordan Powers told media sources. “He was freaked out so he left and went home. He said nothing else happened, but all of that was a lie.” His confession to her from jail about a prior affair was devastating. “He did not deny it. My heart dropped. I felt betrayed,” she said. “I just have a gut feeling that there’s other girls.” “How could he lie to me for all these months and look me in the eye and tell me he loves me?” she told sources. “I don’t know how someone could have such a cold heart.” Jordan Powers said she now believes there were others.

Tammie Powers always believed this was a pattern, keeping the issue of predatory teachers at the forefront with the help of her nearly 7,000 Facebook subscribers. Hooker called it her “personal crusade.” He has said to local media sources that he knew his choices had hurt many people, among them his 17-year-old daughter, who was a popular junior at Enochs High, active in student leadership and academic competitions. She transferred to a new school. The Hooker family has stayed out of the limelight, speaking only through a family friend. Jordan Powers remained close to her older sister and younger brother. She was not speaking to her mother, but that was who she called after Hooker’s arrest Friday. Tammie Powers said the door was always open. “We’re family forever,” she said. Jordan Powers, who left the state Friday, said through her mother that she was not available for comment Saturday.

Hooker was spotted riding his bicycle toward his Modesto apartment Saturday, but he turned in the opposite direction and rode away after a reporter and a photographer from a local newspaper approached him seeking a comment. Two local TV news crews and a representative from a morning news show also waited for Hooker at his home. But Hooker was avoiding all news media. At one point, Hooker was spotted on his bike at a nearby park apparently waiting for the news crews to leave his apartment complex. Hooker rode his bicycle back to his apartment, and the news crews followed. But Hooker refused to talk to the news media. Hooker is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Tuesday in Stanislaus County Superior Court, where a judge will determine whether to reduce his bail amount.

A LOOK AT THE LAW

The statute of limitations for the charge of oral copulation of a person under 18 has expired in the case of former high school teacher James Hooker. But Stanislaus County District Attorney Birgit Fladager said state legislation now allows prosecutors to file charges against a defendant accused of committing a sex crime against a minor even if it’s been more than a decade after the incident is claimed to have occurred. Under California state law, an alleged crime can be reported by anyone of any age to any police agency in California. Fladager said there are some requirements that must be met to file such criminal charges:

–Prosecutors have one year after an incident is reported to police to file a criminal charge.
–The alleged crime must involve substantial sexual misconduct.
–There must be independent evidence that corroborates the victim’s allegation.

Cincinnati, Ohio -- A Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader has been indicted on two felony charges that stem from an alleged sexual relationship with a student at the school where she previously taught. According to a media report, Sarah Jones, 26 (Pictured left) has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse and unlawful use of electronics to induce a minor to engage in sexual acts. The charges relate to an alleged sexual relationship carried on between Jones and a student when she was an English teacher at Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood where she taught freshman English for about five years. The media report says Jones resigned her position at the school on November 30, 2011. She cited “personal reasons” in her resignation letter.

A Kenton County grand jury indicted Sarah Jones on first-degree sexual abuse. She was also indicted on a charge unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited acts. The felony charges each carry the possibility of five years in prison if Jones is found guilty. Sarah Jones (pictured below, center) according to the media reports, is a team captain of the Bengals cheerleading squad.

Her mother Cheryl Jones was indicted on a charge of tampering with physical evidence in her daughter’s case. The mother, who is the principal at Twenhofel Middle School in Independence, expressed surprise when informed by a reporter of her indictment. She referred all questions to her lawyer. The tampering charge is also a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Kenton County School District Superintendent Terri Cox-Cruey placed Cheryl Jones on administrative leave upon learning of the indictment. She said she had not been aware that Cheryl Jones was under investigation. Cox-Cruey said she also didn’t know there was an investigation of Sarah Jones until the day the teacher resigned. Cox-Cruey said she didn’t have an opportunity to question Sarah Jones or conduct an internal investigation. She emphasized that the indictments stem from a police investigation that, for the most part, was kept secret from the school district.

A lawyer confirmed he was representing Cheryl Jones, in addition to her daughter, but declined to comment. In a written statement released later, he said both women will be pleading not guilty.

A-bang-ton Teacher!

BROCKTON, MA (WCJB) — In the wake of the sentencing of a former Abington elementary teacher on child rape charges, Superintendent Peter Schafer said schools “can never be too cautious.” Christine McCallum (pictured left) convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old boy, was sentenced to 29 months in prison and 10 years probation on Tuesday in Brockton Superior Court. “Schools need to continue to be ever vigilant because there are those people who are looking to end up in those situations with students,” said Schafer.

This is the second Abington ex-teacher to plead guilty to sex crimes with a student this year. Former substitute teacher and tennis coach Jon J. O’Keefe, of Waltham, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual conduct for a fee with a three students in February. School Committee Chairman James West said he had no comment because he didn’t know all the facts. Vice Chairwoman Jannette Leary said all questions should be directed to the superintendent and she had no comment as well. “We reviewed the process (of hiring teachers) and it’s been unchanged,” Schafer said after O’Keefe was sentenced to three years probation. “Best practice was followed, and we’ll continue to do that.” “The Abington public schools remain deeply sad and troubled by the case,” said Schafer. “We have a reputation of excellence and the commitment to the safety and well being of our students and that commitment remains steadfast.”

McCallum was arrested on Jan. 9, 2009, after the boy told police the couple had had sex up to 300 times during a 21-month period. McCallum pleaded guilty to 12 counts of child rape, one count of drugging a person for sex and one count of providing alcohol to a minor. McCallum, a native of Coventry, R.I., was living in Rockland and teaching fifth grade at the Woodsdale Elementary School in Abington when she was charged. She was 29 at the time of her arrest. McCallum met the 13-year-old boy at the library, according to reports, where she was tutoring his 9-year-old brother. McCallum forged a friendship with the boy's family and eventually started babysitting the boys, according to Rockland and Abington police reports.

In a victim impact statement, the victim, who is now 16, wept as he said McCallum destroyed his life and drove a wedge between him and his family. The victim's father also read a statement in which he called McCallum ‘‘a true predator and a monster’’ whose impact on the family is beyond measure, said McCallum’s attorney Kevin Reddington.

McCallum’s family, her husband, siblings, parents and aunts and uncles were in court with her. McCallum and her husband have a baby who was conceived after the charges, said Reddington.

McCallum is expected to serve her time in Barnstable House of Correction. She will serve half of her 10 years of probation on a GPS monitoring device, is required to register as a sex offender and will seek counseling as deemed by her probation officer.

Archbishop Chapelle!

Jefferson Parish, La. -- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a teacher from Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie for alleged sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student. Authorities would not say if the student is enrolled at Chapelle, but teacher Jeannine Seoane is also accused of buying alcohol for her. Investigators would say only that Seoane, 47 (pictured left) is accused of inappropriate contact with a "local area high school student." Seoane was taken into custody Tuesday at her home, 6213 Nora St., Metairie, according to a Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Seoane could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Sarah Comiskey McDonald, spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, confirmed that Seoane is a teacher at the Chapelle, located at 8800 Veterans Memorial Blvd. The school's website identifies her as a social studies teacher.

"The school was made aware of some concerns and she was placed on leave," McDonald said Wednesday.

McDonald would not comment what concerns were brought to school officials and when. She also would not answer questions about whether Seoane's alleged victim is enrolled at the school or if any other victims had been identified.

She said school President Jane Ann Frosch was sending home a letter to parents today. (Read text of letter.)

The Sheriff's Office also provided few details about the case. The department's personal violence division was first notified by school officials, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department. Sheriff's Office records indicate the report was filed March 22.

Fortunato said the victim told investigators about inappropriate sexual contact with Seoane. She also said that the teacher bought her alcohol.

Seoane was booked Tuesday with prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student and illegally purchasing alcohol for persons under 21.

Ecstasy Island!

Rikers Island, New York -- A former city Corrections officer will likely end up behind bars after she admitted Thursday to having sex with an inmate and selling Ecstasy, cigarettes and booze while she worked on Rikers Island, officials said. Clara Espada, 41, pleaded guilty to third-degree bribe receiving — a D-class felony — and misdemeanor forcible touching.

A criminal complaint says Espada had sex three times with a male inmate, who has not been named. He told investigators he slept with the officer and helped broker deals that netted the woman nearly $300 a week over four months, court documents show. Espada was arrested Wednesday after an eight-month investigation , the Department of Investigation said.

The crimes were committed in the George Motchan Detention Center between July 2009 and January 2010, while Espada — who has worked for the Corrections Department since December 2004 — was earning a $76,488 salary. She was restricted from inmate contact and placed on modified duty in June 2011 when the investigation first began, according to the DOI.

“Arrest, prosecution, jail time, and the loss of a valuable city job is the likely end for any correction officer who receives bribes to transport contraband into the city jails,” DOI Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn said.

Under the plea deal, Espada — who resigned from her Corrections post earlier this month — is expected to be sentenced to six months behind bars followed by three years probation, the DOI said.

Chiles Play!

Posted: Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 11:47 AM EDT - Updated: Monday, March 19, 2012, 1:11 PM PST

KENTON — Whitney Chiles (pictured left) is expected to be sentenced to prison next month for having sex with a 15-year-old student. Hardin County Prosecutor Brad Bailey said he worked out a deal for her to receive four years of prison, with the chance for early release after serving six months. Chiles pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, in exchange for the dismissal of three other counts. She is free on bond until her sentencing, which is scheduled for April 16. The case stems from a sexual rendezvous Chiles had with the male student on Feb. 18, 2011. The two began exchanging Facebook and text messages, which led to the illegal behavior, Bailey said.

Chiles, who lives in Ada, drove to Lima to pick up the student on a school in-service day, when no classes are held so teachers can attend professional development sessions. Chiles then drove the student back to her house, Bailey said. “They proceeded to use marijuana,” Bailey said. “They rolled two joints and smoked them.” The two began participating in foreplay which led to the sex, Bailey said. “She took the student in the back bedroom and they had intercourse,” Bailey said. Chiles then drove the student back to Lima and gave him $20 to buy food. Her husband, who is now deceased, reported the possibility of the incident to school officials, as did another teacher with whom Chiles confided. School officials notified police, Bailey said.

Chiles, 30, resigned her position at Lima North Middle School, where she worked with special-education pupils since 2006. Ada Police Department officers searched Chiles' home in Ada, confiscating items after officers received reports of inappropriate behavior with a teenager. The teenager admitted to having sex with Chiles, according to a report in her personnel file with Lima City Schools.

Chiles barely spoke during the hearing, and at one point, appeared if she was going to back out of the plea deal. Her attorney requested a brief recess to talk to her. She then went through with the guilty plea. Her trial was scheduled to begin Monday. Chiles originally faced charges of sexual battery, a third-degree felony; unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony; corrupting another with drugs, a fourth-degree felony; and sexual imposition; a third-degree misdemeanor. Those charges carried a maximum sentence of 11 1/2 years in prison.

Hemet, CA -- A ninth-grade English teacher seduced her teenage aide and lured him into a sexual relationship by telling him he looked like "Twilight"'s Taylor Lautner, Southern California police said. Authorities arrested Janel Ramirez (pictured above, center) a married 31-year-old, earlier this month after the student reported the affair, according to local media sources. She was later released on $100,000 bond.

The student told police that the Hemet High School teacher began her seduction during his sophomore year when he was 16 and worked as her aide, the source reported, based on a search warrant and affidavit it obtained Monday. Their sexual activity always occurred in her classroom, behind a locked door, the documents indicated. Ramirez hugged and kissed the teen on the last day of school that year, he told police, and told him he looked like Lautner.

The following year the teen worked as her aide again, and he claimed Ramirez repeatedly complimented his looks. The pair often worked together alone in her office, where their relationship evolved from kissing and fondling, and eventually resulted in the two having sex, the source reported.

Ramirez told the teen that her husband was "mean to her," and that she wanted to be with him after he graduated, the police documents said. The teen claimed to have ended the relationship before calling authorities.

Prosecutors are investigating the student's claims, and have searched the teacher’s home. No charges have been filed.

'Camille'!

Houston, TX -- A middle school was caught having sex with a 15-year-old student in his home when his younger brother, aged 12, walked in on the pair. Kathryn 'Camille' Murray, 28 (pictured above, center) from Houston was arrested on Thursday and charged with sexual assault of a child. According to a police report Murray went to the boys' house the night of February 11 when his parents were away after he invited her over. The older boy had asked his younger brother in advance if he could invited 'Mrs. Murry' over to the home. Around midnight, according to the 12-year-old, he walked in on the pair in bed. He saw a tan bra and used condom on the floor and the teacher and his brother under the covers.

The older brother then introduced the pair. 'Mrs. Murray (pictured left) say hi to [younger brother].' She replied 'Hola,' according to the boy, who remembered her voice as that of 'Mrs. Murray, a Memorial Middle School Language Arts teacher.' When she left the home at 12:30 am she called out 'Adios.' Interviewed by police afterwards the 15-year-old admitted having sex with her and said he 'was in love with the defendant and he had kissed her.'

Earlier in the week Murray was removed from her post at Memorial Middle School after a report of a then unspecified inappropriate relationship was reported to the principal on February 13. She has taught eighth grade at the school for the past three years. After her initial suspension, before she was fired, superintendent Duncan F. Klussmann said: 'The safety of every SBISD student is our very highest priority. This allegation, if true, represents a complete breach of trust that our children and our community place in our educators every day. 'We will never tolerate any teacher or other employee who takes advantage of and harms a student.' Counselors were at the school for pupils to offer care and counseling over the alleged incident.

Children's Protective Services, Spring Branch ISD police, and the State Board for Educator Certification are also investigating. The boys' family now has a restraining order against Murray. Murray is also barred from going near the school. She is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond.

A 42-year-old teacher at Roosevelt High School has been arrested on suspicion of having sexual relationships with two teenage students. Gabriela Cortez (pictured left) of Montebello, was taken into custody Wednesday evening by Montebello police after they interviewed two teenage male students she allegedly had sexual relationships with in recent years, said Chief Kevin McClure of the Montebello Police Department. One of the alleged victims reported the alleged crime to police after the teacher broke off the relationship, police said. A subsequent police investigation uncovered a second alleged victim, police said. Both alleged victims are now legally adults.

Montebello police investigated the case because many of the alleged illegal acts occurred in the city and her home. Detectives suspect Cortez may have prior victims and are continuing the investigation. Montebello police detectives will formally present their investigation to prosecutors Thursday, but have previously discussed the probe with them.

The teacher was booked into the Montebello city jail on suspicion of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, a felony, and released on $140,000 bail.
