Columbus, OH (NOV. 29, 2016) ~ USA -- Knife weilding suspect Abdul Razak Ali Artan was almost immediately shot by OSU police officer Alan Horujko. Horujko was immediately hailed as a hero by mainstream media. Horujko is perhaps a hero for ending a serious threat. However, it appears that mainstream media is not telling the entire story. Most significantly, several of the students injured during the attack were injured by Horujko’s poor marksmanship, not by Artan’s knife.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- (WCJB) ~ United States California officials fear dozens may have died in a massive fire that swept through an Oakland warehouse where a concert was taking place Friday night. Nine people have been confirmed dead, and dozens of others remain missing, officials said. In a news conference Saturday, authorities said they expected the death toll to rise, but they did not know by how much. “We’re expecting the worst — maybe a couple dozen victims here,” Sgt. Ray Kelly, spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, told reporters. “We did not have a lot of victims go to the hospital,” Kelly said. “It appears that people either made it out, or they didn’t make it out.”

EL CENTRO, CA (WCJB) ~ United States The El Centro Police Department said it's investigating a video that shows officers using force on a suspect who put several people in danger Tuesday afternoon. The video shows officers beating 23-year-old Elizardo Saenz, an El Centro resident. It also shows a K-9 police dog attacking Saenz. (Click here for video)

Oakland, CA (WCJB) ~ United States -- A sex scandal involving Oakland police officers and a then underage girl has all the makings of a TV thriller. The saga is full of twists and turns. The scandal erupted months after Officer Brendan O'Brien committed suicide. O'Brien left a note spilling the details, including names. Three Oakland officers were placed on paid leave. A source said O'Brien in his suicide note confessed to exchanging messages with a young woman who goes by the name Celeste Guap. However, the note says he did not have sexual contact with her. The same sources said she has met multiple officers. In the note, O'Brien named the officers, including one sergeant, involved in the alleged sexual misconduct with Guap. Guap is the daughter of a Oakland police dispatcher. The police investigation will look at whether Guap was under age during some of the encounters with officers. (Click here for video)

New Orleans, LA (WCJB) ~ United States -- On September 4, 2005, New Orleans police received a call from an officer at Danziger Bridge reporting gunfire. Several NOPD officers—including Sgt. Kenneth Bowen, Sgt. Robert Gisevius, Officer Anthony Villavaso, and Officer Robert Faulcon—arrived at the scene in a Budget rental truck. They proceeded to open fire with assault rifles and a shotgun on an unarmed family, the Bartholomews, who had been walking to a grocery store and were then sheltering behind a concrete barrier. 17-year-old James Brissette—a family friend—was killed, and four other people were wounded. The police shooters stated that while approaching the bridge, they had been fired on by civilians, and were forced to return fire. Homicide detective Arthur "Archie" Kaufman was made the lead investigator on the case. He was later found guilty of conspiring with the defendants to conceal evidence in order to make the shootings appear justified, including fabricating information for his official reports on the case. NOPD lieutenant Michael Lohman also encouraged the officers to "provide false stories about what had precipitated the shooting" and plant a firearm near the scene. (Click here for video)

Aiken, S.C. (WCJB) ~ United States -- A horrifying new dashcam video shows at least one white member of the Aiken, S.C. Police Department search inside a black man’s rectum for the apparent crime of being a passenger in a car with paper tags, which, it bears noting, is not a crime in the state of South Carolina. Driving a car with paper tags isn’t illegal either, as long as they aren’t expired. The car belonged to a woman named Lakeya Hicks, who had the paper tags because she had recently purchased the vehicle. Hicks’ tags weren’t expired, and a check on her license came up clean. However, the cops didn’t let her go. (Click here for video)

Brooklyn, NY (WCJB) ~ United States -- When an unmarked police car drove very close to mailman Glenn Grays in Brooklyn, Grays shouted at the car. Four plainclothes officers got out of the car and started to handcuff him. Grays initially tried to resist, and one of the officers said “Stop resisting! You’re going to get hurt if you don’t give me your fucking hands.” (Click here for video)

Marion County, Florida ~ United States -- A federal grand jury in Tampa has indicted a former Florida sheriff’s deputy on charges of violating the civil rights of an unarmed Black man, who was brutally beaten after surrendering to him and other officers following a brief chase last year, reports Reuters. Former Marion County sheriff’s deputy Jesse Terrell, 33, is accused of using excessive force against Derrick Price during the incident in August 2014 that was captured on video, according to the indictment handed down late Tuesday. Four of Terrell’s former colleagues pleaded guilty to the charge after accepting a deal, according to media sources. (Click here for video)

New York ~ United States -- Opening statements and testimony began this week in the long-awaited trial of New York City police officer Peter Liang for the killing of Akai Gurley, an unarmed 28-year-old African-American man walking down the stairs in his apartment building, part of the Louis H. Pink housing projects in the East New York section of Brooklyn. Jury selection in the case was completed last week. Gurley died more than 14 months ago, on November 20, 2014, as two cops were making a “vertical patrol,” checking the stairwells in the high-rise building. As Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Marc Fliedner put it, opening the prosecution’s case, “Akai Gurley is dead today because he crossed paths with Peter Liang.” Liang was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on manslaughter and other charges last February, and both prosecution and defense agree on the immediate events that led to Gurley’s death.(Click here for video)
Oklahoma City, OK ~ United States -- Daniel Holtzclaw has officially been sentenced for the rape and sexual assault of 13 Black women in Oklahoma. Will serve the rest of his life behind bars. Chicago, IL -- Surveillance video (Click here for video) in connection with a Chicago police officer's fatally shooting 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman was released today by attorneys for the teen's family. A federal judge ordered the release of footage showing the 2013 shooting today after the city withdrew its objection to its being made public. Chicago police officer Kevin Fry fatally shot Chatman Jan. 7, 2013, in broad daylight during a foot chase, according to court records. Chatman’s family had fought for the video to be released as part of a wrongful death lawsuit they filed over the shooting against the city, Fry and Chicago police officer Lou Toth, who pursued Chatman along with Fry during the foot chase. Family members have argued the video will counter the city and police’s narrative that the 17-year-old was a danger to police. IPRA concluded the officers' actions were justified because they reasonably believed Chatman was armed at the time.

Brooklyn, NY -- A newly-released surveillance video (Click here for video) contradicts an undercover NYPD police officer who arrested four people in Brooklyn for allegedly trying to rob him on Dec. 26, 2015, according to a defense lawyer. Jean Scott, 33; Peterson Duplan, 28; Ricardi Joseph, 29; and Samantha Dabel, 24, said that they were approached by a man who tried to buy drugs from them at a hardware store. The undercover cop was identified as Winston McDonald, who testified in court that Duplan allegedly flashed a switchblade at him outside of the store, and said, "Give me your money or I will stab you," according to court papers.

Forth Worth, TX -- The mother of ‘affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch was ordered released from a Tarrant County jail cell after a bond hearing this afternoon. She may be leaving the jail soon. Judge Wayne Salvant ordered her bond reduced to $75,000 with several conditions. The conditions include weekly visits with the Community Supervisions and Corrections Department of Tarrant County. She is also not to consume alcoholic beverages or use social media. “Let’s look at it for what it is, I understand everyone is concerned and there is outrage in the community… but as a judge I have to look at the law,” said Judge Salvant. Couch and her lawyers were present at a 2 p.m. bond hearing at the Tarrant County Justice Center hoping to have her bond reduced. It was originally set at $1 million since she was charged with Hindering Apprehension of a Felon. (Click here for video)

Salt Lake City, Utah -- Exactly one year after a man was shot and killed during an altercation with a Salt Lake City Police Department officer, a former Davis County Sheriff says new video (Click here for video)footage indicates the officer's actions may not have been justified. James Barker, 42, was shot and killed January 8, 2015 after officer Matthew Taylor responded to a 911 call about a suspicious person and an altercation ensued, during which Barker appeared to strike the officer with a snow shovel.

Philadelphia, PA ~ USA -- Corrupt Justice™ has obtained a video (Click here for video) of the police shooting that took place Thursday night at 60th and Spruce streets. Edward Archer, a 30-year-old Delaware County man who has allegedly claimed an allegiance to ISIS, shot and wounded Officer Jesse Hartnett at 11:41 p.m. last night, city police said. Stunningly, Hartnett can be seen in the video getting out of his patrol car and chasing down the shooter after being ambushed. Officials say Hartnett is in critical but stable condition.

Miami, FL ~ USA -- A Florida jury began weighing on Tuesday whether a man who killed his wife and posted a photo of her blood-spattered, lifeless body on Facebook committed first-degree murder. Attorneys for Derek Medina, 33, argued that he was acting in self-defense when he fired eight shots at Jennifer Alfonso, 27, in the kitchen of their Miami-area residence. The August 2013 shooting followed a fight in which she had threatened to leave, prosecutors said during closing statements. They argued that Medina retrieved a .380-caliber pistol from his bedroom and pulled the trigger repeatedly in a premeditated act of murder. "Every single shot hit her because he was aiming and he wanted her dead," said Assistant State Attorney Leah Klein in Miami-Dade County circuit court. Medina wrote on Facebook shortly before turning himself in: "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. My wife was punching me, and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did," he added in the post. (Click here for video)

Montgomery County, Pa. -- Bill Cosby, the comedian and entertainer once known as “America’s dad”, appeared in court (Click here for video) to face his first criminal charge for sexual misconduct on Wednesday, for an incident in which he allegedly drugged and violated a woman who considered him to be her mentor. In a hearing lasting less than 10 minutes, Judge Elizabeth McHugh read out the three second-degree felony charges of aggravated indecent assault. He did not appear visibly moved; when asked if he understood the charges, he replied simply: “Yes.” Bail was set at $1m, of which Cosby will have to pay 10% on Wednesday. Cosby faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

It was unclear what led to the incident, in which more than two dozen shots seemed to be fired. No deputies were injured. In accordance with protocol, a multi-agency investigation was underway.

Oklahoma City OK ~ USA -- A former Oklahoma City police officer was convicted Thursday of 18 of the 36 counts he faced, including four counts of first-degree rape, related to accusations that he victimized 13 women on his police beat in a minority, low-income neighborhood. Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, sobbed (Click here for video) as the verdict was read aloud. He could spend the rest of his life in prison based on the jury's recommendations, which include a 30-year sentence on each of the first-degree rape counts. Among the other charges he was convicted of were forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery and second-degree rape. The jury, which deliberated for about 45 hours over four days, recommended he serve a total of 263 years in prison. The judge will decide later whether he will have to serve the sentences consecutively.

A San Francisco police officer who was taken off field duty four years ago after a flurry of complaints and brutality lawsuits that have cost the city more than $400,000 has been fired over charges of abusive conduct stemming from a 2007 incident, The Chronicle has learned. Jesse Serna, 45, who was on the force for 16 years, was put on desk duty in 2007 by then-Police Chief Heather Fong after a string of incidents involving use of force, including one in 2006 that led to a $385,000 civil settlement.

Chief Greg Suhr declined to comment on Serna's July 13 dismissal by the Police Commission, saying he could not talk about a confidential personnel matter. Serna could not be reached for comment. A media analysis of records from 1996 to 2004 showed that Serna accounted for more use of force incidents than any other San Francisco officer. He has been named in seven lawsuits, and the allegations that triggered his ouster stem from a Feb. 24, 2007, incident involving two couples whose suits are still pending.

His lawyer said the incident occurred while Serna was seeking an attempted murder suspect, with the officer making "some spur-of-the-moment decisions in a really stressful situation." Brass described his client as a decorated and "gutsy cop" and said that excessive force charges were not upheld. Police reports indicate the incident began when Serna and a partner were on the Embarcadero, arresting a man who had been involved in a fight with a motorist. In his police report, Serna said he got a handcuff onto the left hand of Jamal Jackson, then 18, of San Francisco, but the suspect pulled his right hand away. Serna reported that he punched Jackson in the back, fearing the man may have been reaching for a weapon. Jackson called out, asking if anyone had seen what Serna did. Shawn Myers, who was waiting for his car at a nearby parking lot with his wife, Sarah, responded that he had. Myers' wife wrote in a statement that day that Serna came over and told her husband to put his hands behind his back. As her husband was forced to the ground, Sarah Myers said, "I stood there asking why were they doing this," and at that point, "I was pepper-sprayed in the face by Officer Serna."

In his report, Serna said Myers had approached in an aggressive posture with his hands in his jacket pockets, telling Serna, "F- you, shoot me, mother-." Serna reported that he had to pepper-spray Sarah Myers after she had "run toward us with her arms out as if she were going to push us or possibly attempt to free Myers."

The couple's lawsuit said Serna disparaged Shawn Myers, who is African American, after placing him in a police van, calling him a "monkey." Myers also quoted Serna as saying: "That sure is an ugly white bitch you're married to." Attorney John Burris, whose office handled four of the suits against Serna, said his dismissal was overdue. He said two of the suits settled for a total of $55,000, while the city won one of the suits and another ended in dismissal after a hung jury.

"I think the system worked too slowly to remove him," Burris said. "He lied in all these cases to justify his conduct. He was probably the most consistently vicious officer I have dealt with. He did not use any level of verbal skill. If a person raised any question, he was going to be physically assaulted."

The largest civil settlement involving Serna's alleged conduct was paid to Mehrdad Alemozaffar, who sued after he was allegedly roughed up, told to "stop acting like such a girl" and zapped with a stun gun during a 2006 North Beach sweep. Alemozaffar, who was then 26 and preparing for a medical residency at Harvard, accused Serna of tackling him to the ground near Broadway and Montgomery Street, after officers sought to get Alemozaffar and two friends to leave the area and pushed them in the back.

B.A.R.T. Investigates

Charles Blair Hill

Federal Bound!

July 27, 2011

The BART police officer who fatally shot a knife-wielding transient in San Francisco earlier this month was working one of his last shifts before a planned move to the FBI, but the job change is on hold during the shooting probe. The officer, identified by sources Tuesday as James Crowell, rescinded his resignation from BART and has been cleared to return to duty. But his plan to become an FBI agent raises the stakes of investigations about the July 3 shooting at Civic Center Station that are being conducted by BART and San Francisco police.

Crowell's attorney said Tuesday that his client would still join the FBI after he is cleared of wrongdoing. A spokeswoman for the agency did not return a call seeking comment. Crowell was hired early last year from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, records show. He shot Charles Blair Hill, 45, after Hill advanced on him and a partner with a knife with a 4-inch blade and then wound up to throw the weapon, BART said.

BART officials released footage from a platform camera last week that shows Crowell and his partner arriving on a train in response to a report of a drunken man with an open bottle. The video does not show Hill, who is out of view. BART officials said Hill first threw his bottle, and that a second officer - identified by sources as six-year veteran Myron Lee - slipped on liquid from it.

Fourteen seconds after arriving, Crowell backed away and drew his pistol, the footage shows. At this point, officials said, Lee was on the ground.

Another three seconds elapsed, with Crowell saying something, but BART's cameras do not capture audio. BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey said the officer was ordering Hill to drop the knife. The video shows what appears to be the firing of the gun and, an instant later, an object appearing in view. The object - which Rainey said was the knife - hit the train car and ricocheted back.

Some police watchdogs have questioned whether Hill posed a grave threat to the officer, and have wondered why Crowell didn't use his Taser to subdue Hill. Crowell's attorney said he expected officers to be scrutinized when they use deadly force. But he said "antipolice agitators" who have protested the shooting, and another fatal police shooting in San Francisco, have "revealed their true colors. ... They want cops shot or stabbed before they are allowed to use force."

Murder Train!

July 22, 2011

The following video demonstrates a callous, vicious disregard for human life. Charles Hill, 45, was killed in the incident on the platform at the Civic Center station, but he is not shown in the video, as it shows only part of the platform. At the time he was shot and killed, Mr. Hill no longer posed a threat to officers or train passengers.

B.A.R.T. PD Again!

July 12, 2011

July 7, 2011

(BART police Deputy Chief Daniel Hartwig, pictured left, gives BART PD version of shooting events.) SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Surveillance camera footage gives a "partial view" of an incident in which a BART police officer shot a knife-wielding man in San Francisco, but does not show his actions at the moment the shots were fired, BART officials said Tuesday. "It will be a strong tool in the investigation," said BART police Deputy Chief Daniel Hartwig, who said he had not seen the footage himself and could not discuss it in detail.

BART, San Francisco police and the San Francisco district attorney are investigating the Sunday night shooting on the platform of the Civic Center Station. The man who was shot has been identified, but his name was not released Tuesday because the San Francisco medical examiner was unable to reach his relatives.

BART & BART Police are not always honest with the public!

BART Spokesman with BART PD Officials present, denying video of the Oscar Grant Killing existed.

According to the transit agency, two officers responded to a report of a man in a tie-dye T-shirt and military-style fatigue pants with an open bottle of alcohol at 9:34 p.m. Sunday.

Within one minute of arriving, Hartwig said, one of the officers fired after he was "confronted by an aggressive suspect who was holding a bottle and a knife." Hartwig said he did not know whether the officer - who gave a statement to investigators soon after the shooting - reported fearing for his own life or the life of a BART patron.

One of the two officers suffered a minor cut to his arm in the incident, officials said. Three shell casings were recovered from the officer's pistol.

An attorney representing the two officers, said Tuesday that the man who was shot had first thrown the liquor bottle at the officers. "It's my understanding that he then advanced on them with a knife, which was recovered, and that he looked like he was winding up to throw the knife at them," Stern said.

BART did not identify the two officers, one a six-year veteran of the force and the other a BART officer for a little more than a year. Both have been placed on routine administrative leave.

The incident marked the sixth time a BART officer has shot a person in the 40 years since the agency formed a police force.

The most widely known of those shootings - the killing of unarmed train rider Oscar Grant at an Oakland station on Jan. 1, 2009 - was missed by the agency's surveillance cameras, which were pointed in other directions, but was filmed by passengers.

July 5, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Officials have identified the man shot and killed by a BART police officer Sunday night but withheld his name Tuesday because they had not reached his family, according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner's office. Two officers responded to reports of a drunken man with an open bottle of alcohol at the Civic Center station platform about 10 p.m. Sunday and within a minute of arriving on the scene, they called in to say that one of them had shot the man, BART police Chief Kenton Rainey said.

The officers said the man had used the bottle as a weapon and was also armed with a knife, attacking them.

One of the officers took a minor cut to his arm but was not hospitalized, Rainey said. The man was taken to a hospital and died an hour later.

San Francisco police are handling the criminal investigation into the shooting while the San Francisco District Attorney's Office along with BART police and administrators perform independent investigations. This was the sixth on-duty officer-involved shooting involving injury or death in BART's 40-year history.

Oscar Grant

BART police wrapped up their preliminary investigation [on January 12, 2009], of the officer-involved shooting New Year's Day of an unarmed man in Oakland [at the Fruitvale B.A.R.T. Station] and have forwarded the case to the Alameda County district attorney's office, officials said.

"We urge the district attorney (corruption, nepotism and cronyism runs rampant in this organization) to expeditiously review all of that evidence and to bring this investigation to a conclusion as rapidly as possible," BART General Manager Dorothy Dugger said at a hastily arranged news conference [on] Monday [January 12, 2009]. Note: B.A.R.T. does not publicly call for criminal charges against the officer involved in the shooting.

Grant was lying facedown when B.A.R.T Police Officer [Johannes] Mehserle pulled his service weapon from his holster and fired one shot into his back. The shooting was video-recorded (<<-- Click to view video) by other BART passengers.

On January 7, 2009, Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff stated:

"'"By and large, police officers have been reacting to some type of situation before they shoot someone that usually provides a legal justification," said District Attorney Tom Orloff, who has seen dozens of police shooting cases during his nearly four-decade career as a prosecutor."'"

Some local city and community leaders have demanded that Mehserle be arrested and charged with murder. And even BART Director [Lynette] Sweet said [January 12, 2009] that she thinks [B.A.R.T. Gen. Mgr.] Dugger and the agency's police chief, Gary Gee, should lose their jobs.

The Alameda County District Attorney has yet to file additional charges against anyone in relation to the Chauncey Bailey Homicide. Several police officers within the Oakland Police Department have killed unarmed (black male) citizens and no criminal charges have been brought to date. See:

Officer Pat Gonzales: Racist, Murderous Oakland Police Officer - 3 Killings
Officer Hector Jimenez: Racist, Murderous Oakland Police Officer - 2 Killings
Investigator interfered in police probes of former bakery CEO

However, the general public is to now believe a fair, impartial and unbiased investigation will be conduct by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. We at C.J. say, NOT! The hoodwink is on. Even if charges are brought against Mr. Mehserle, he has little to worry about. Most of the Alameda County Deputy Prosecutors are [biologically] related to the judges presiding over Alameda County courts. As the history of the D.A.'s office demonstrates, no police officer has ever been charged, or convicted in Alameda County for shooting an unarmed citizen.
