Baltimore, MD ~ United States -- Baltimore police Lt. Brian Rice was found not guilty of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office in connection with Freddie Gray's arrest and death, Judge Barry Williams ruled in a bench trial Monday. Rice was the highest-ranking police officer charged in the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who suffered a broken neck in a police transport van on April 12, 2015. Opting for a bench trial over a jury trial, Rice's case was heard by Williams, the same judge who acquitted Officers Edward Nero and Caesar Goodson on all charges related to Gray's death. The prosecution wanted the judge to presume Rice had read a general order mandating that officers seat belt prisoners, Williams said, but failed to prove it. There was also no evidence that Rice was aware that failing to seat belt a prisoner might result in injury or death, the judge said.
Prosecutors dropped all charges Wednesday (July 27, 2016) against three Baltimore police officers accused in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray, bringing to an end one of the highest-profile criminal cases in the city's history with zero convictions. Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby acknowledged the long odds of securing convictions in the remaining cases following the acquittals of three other officers on similar though more serious charges. In a hearing Wednesday meant to start the trial of Officer Garrett Miller, prosecutors dropped their cases against him, Officer William Porter and Sgt. Alicia White. Circuit Judge Barry G. Williams, who had acquitted the other officers, was expected to preside over the remaining trials as well.

Oakland, CA (WCJB) ~ United States -- A sex scandal involving Oakland police officers and a then underage girl has all the makings of a TV thriller. The saga is full of twists and turns. The scandal erupted months after Officer Brendan O'Brien committed suicide. O'Brien left a note spilling the details, including names. Three Oakland officers were placed on paid leave. A source said O'Brien in his suicide note confessed to exchanging messages with a young woman who goes by the name Celeste Guap. However, the note says he did not have sexual contact with her. The same sources said she has met multiple officers. In the note, O'Brien named the officers, including one sergeant, involved in the alleged sexual misconduct with Guap. Guap is the daughter of a Oakland police dispatcher. The police investigation will look at whether Guap was under age during some of the encounters with officers. (Click here for video)

New Orleans, LA (WCJB) ~ United States -- On September 4, 2005, New Orleans police received a call from an officer at Danziger Bridge reporting gunfire. Several NOPD officers—including Sgt. Kenneth Bowen, Sgt. Robert Gisevius, Officer Anthony Villavaso, and Officer Robert Faulcon—arrived at the scene in a Budget rental truck. They proceeded to open fire with assault rifles and a shotgun on an unarmed family, the Bartholomews, who had been walking to a grocery store and were then sheltering behind a concrete barrier. 17-year-old James Brissette—a family friend—was killed, and four other people were wounded. The police shooters stated that while approaching the bridge, they had been fired on by civilians, and were forced to return fire. Homicide detective Arthur "Archie" Kaufman was made the lead investigator on the case. He was later found guilty of conspiring with the defendants to conceal evidence in order to make the shootings appear justified, including fabricating information for his official reports on the case. NOPD lieutenant Michael Lohman also encouraged the officers to "provide false stories about what had precipitated the shooting" and plant a firearm near the scene. (Click here for video)

Aiken, S.C. (WCJB) ~ United States -- A horrifying new dashcam video shows at least one white member of the Aiken, S.C. Police Department search inside a black man’s rectum for the apparent crime of being a passenger in a car with paper tags, which, it bears noting, is not a crime in the state of South Carolina. Driving a car with paper tags isn’t illegal either, as long as they aren’t expired. The car belonged to a woman named Lakeya Hicks, who had the paper tags because she had recently purchased the vehicle. Hicks’ tags weren’t expired, and a check on her license came up clean. However, the cops didn’t let her go. (Click here for video)

Brooklyn, NY (WCJB) ~ United States -- When an unmarked police car drove very close to mailman Glenn Grays in Brooklyn, Grays shouted at the car. Four plainclothes officers got out of the car and started to handcuff him. Grays initially tried to resist, and one of the officers said “Stop resisting! You’re going to get hurt if you don’t give me your fucking hands.” (Click here for video)

Former Marion County sheriff’s deputy Jesse Terrell, 33, is accused of using excessive force against Derrick Price during the incident in August 2014 that was captured on video, according to the indictment handed down late Tuesday. Four of Terrell’s former colleagues pleaded guilty to the charge after accepting a deal, according to media sources. (Click here for video)

New York ~ United States -- Opening statements and testimony began this week in the long-awaited trial of New York City police officer Peter Liang for the killing of Akai Gurley, an unarmed 28-year-old African-American man walking down the stairs in his apartment building, part of the Louis H. Pink housing projects in the East New York section of Brooklyn. Jury selection in the case was completed last week. Gurley died more than 14 months ago, on November 20, 2014, as two cops were making a “vertical patrol,” checking the stairwells in the high-rise building. As Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Marc Fliedner put it, opening the prosecution’s case, “Akai Gurley is dead today because he crossed paths with Peter Liang.” Liang was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on manslaughter and other charges last February, and both prosecution and defense agree on the immediate events that led to Gurley’s death.(Click here for video)

Chicago, IL -- Surveillance video (Click here for video) in connection with a Chicago police officer's fatally shooting 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman was released today by attorneys for the teen's family. A federal judge ordered the release of footage showing the 2013 shooting today after the city withdrew its objection to its being made public. Chicago police officer Kevin Fry fatally shot Chatman Jan. 7, 2013, in broad daylight during a foot chase, according to court records. Chatman’s family had fought for the video to be released as part of a wrongful death lawsuit they filed over the shooting against the city, Fry and Chicago police officer Lou Toth, who pursued Chatman along with Fry during the foot chase. Family members have argued the video will counter the city and police’s narrative that the 17-year-old was a danger to police. IPRA concluded the officers' actions were justified because they reasonably believed Chatman was armed at the time.

Brooklyn, NY -- A newly-released surveillance video (Click here for video) contradicts an undercover NYPD police officer who arrested four people in Brooklyn for allegedly trying to rob him on Dec. 26, 2015, according to a defense lawyer. Jean Scott, 33; Peterson Duplan, 28; Ricardi Joseph, 29; and Samantha Dabel, 24, said that they were approached by a man who tried to buy drugs from them at a hardware store. The undercover cop was identified as Winston McDonald, who testified in court that Duplan allegedly flashed a switchblade at him outside of the store, and said, "Give me your money or I will stab you," according to court papers.

Forth Worth, TX -- The mother of ‘affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch was ordered released from a Tarrant County jail cell after a bond hearing this afternoon. She may be leaving the jail soon. Judge Wayne Salvant ordered her bond reduced to $75,000 with several conditions. The conditions include weekly visits with the Community Supervisions and Corrections Department of Tarrant County. She is also not to consume alcoholic beverages or use social media. “Let’s look at it for what it is, I understand everyone is concerned and there is outrage in the community… but as a judge I have to look at the law,” said Judge Salvant. Couch and her lawyers were present at a 2 p.m. bond hearing at the Tarrant County Justice Center hoping to have her bond reduced. It was originally set at $1 million since she was charged with Hindering Apprehension of a Felon. (Click here for video)

Salt Lake City, Utah -- Exactly one year after a man was shot and killed during an altercation with a Salt Lake City Police Department officer, a former Davis County Sheriff says new video (Click here for video)footage indicates the officer's actions may not have been justified. Miami, FL ~ USA -- A Florida jury began weighing on Tuesday whether a man who killed his wife and posted a photo of her blood-spattered, lifeless body on Facebook committed first-degree murder. Attorneys for Derek Medina, 33, argued that he was acting in self-defense when he fired eight shots at Jennifer Alfonso, 27, in the kitchen of their Miami-area residence. The August 2013 shooting followed a fight in which she had threatened to leave, prosecutors said during closing statements. They argued that Medina retrieved a .380-caliber pistol from his bedroom and pulled the trigger repeatedly in a premeditated act of murder. "Every single shot hit her because he was aiming and he wanted her dead," said Assistant State Attorney Leah Klein in Miami-Dade County circuit court. Medina wrote on Facebook shortly before turning himself in: "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. My wife was punching me, and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did," he added in the post. (Click here for video)

He did not appear visibly moved; when asked if he understood the charges, he replied simply: “Yes.” Bail was set at $1m, of which Cosby will have to pay 10% on Wednesday. Cosby faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

Oklahoma City OK ~ USA -- A former Oklahoma City police officer was convicted Thursday of 18 of the 36 counts he faced, including four counts of first-degree rape, related to accusations that he victimized 13 women on his police beat in a minority, low-income neighborhood. Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, sobbed (Click here for video) as the verdict was read aloud. He could spend the rest of his life in prison based on the jury's recommendations, which include a 30-year sentence on each of the first-degree rape counts. Among the other charges he was convicted of were forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery and second-degree rape. The jury, which deliberated for about 45 hours over four days, recommended he serve a total of 263 years in prison. Craig Nash!

Published: 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011

A former San Antonio police officer accused of raping a transsexual prostitute while on duty was ordered Tuesday to spend a year in jail.

Attorneys for Craig Nash, 39, had asked state District Judge Lori Valenzuela for deferred adjudication probation during the brief sentencing hearing, pointing out that he otherwise had been commended for his service during his six years with the department. Prosecutors sought the maximum one-year sentence for the official oppression charge, which is a Class A misdemeanor. As part of a plea agreement, Nash waived an indictment last month and pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor. In exchange, prosecutors agreed not to pursue a felony charge of sexual assault by a police officer, which had a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Nash also agreed to never again seek work as a police officer in Texas. Police Chief William McManus had indefinitely suspended Nash — the equivalent of firing him — last March and said the accusation had arrived as “a hard slap to the face” of other officers.

“Officers should be held to a higher standard,” prosecutor Trey Banack said Tuesday of his request for jail time. “A police officer who is a criminal does not deserve mercy from the system he serves to protect.”

Nash was arrested last February after the victim — currently serving time in a male state jail facility for prostitution — reported that she had just been held captive and raped by the officer. [S]he had been picked up by Nash at Guadalupe and Zarzamora streets early that morning and handcuffed in the back of the patrol car, she told police. She then was then told to lie down as Nash drove to an unknown location, where she was forced to commit multiple sex acts, she reported.

DNA taken from a rape kit later linked Nash to the complainant, according to court records. The woman picked Nash out in a police lineup and GPS tracking of his patrol unit was consistent with what she said, documents state. (Video below: Former SAPD Officer Craig Nash unlawfully arrested two San Antonio Street Preachers in 2009. Mr. Nash was later arrested for raping a cross dresser who he had handcuffed and placed in his police cruiser.)

Two days after the officer's arrest, a second person came forward to say he had also been raped by the officer in 2008. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors won't pursue the second allegation, according to court documents. Prosecutors opted to pursue the misdemeanor charge against Nash instead of the felony as they began looking ahead to trial and contemplating “additional issues we'd have to deal with,” said Adriana Biggs, chief of the district attorney's white-collar crimes division. She declined to elaborate. Unlike sexual assault, consent isn't an issue for an officer to be charged with official oppression. Prosecutors only have to show that an officer had sex with somebody in custody.

Outside the courtroom, Nash's defense attorney wouldn't say if he had been prepared to argue that sex between his client and the accuser was consensual, saying only: “We don't agree to the elements of sexual assault. We don't agree that happened.”

Nash had been a good officer and good father to six children and probation seemed appropriate, the attorney said. “He had been officer of the month a couple times,” he said, adding that Nash had been recognized for saving a woman from a fire, among other commendations. “He had a lot of heroic acts.”

Posted on February 27, 2010 at 9:01 PM

A formal complaint was filed in August against the San Antonio officer now accused of rape. Rebecca Flores says Office Craig Nash was on the scene of a downtown assault which members of her family witnessed back in June 2009. In a formal complaint heard at the August 8th city council meeting, it is alleged Nash was rude towards witnesses and threatened to arrest a man who was trying to be of assistance to the victim. After the complaint was heard, Flores says there was a meeting with the assistant city manager and police administrators in which they assured her the matter would be investigated. Nash never received disciplinary action and that is disturbing to Flores.

“We had a chance to do something about that guy.” she said. “We did what we could and we still could not stop him from doing what he did to that young person.
The formal complaint which was filed reads as follows:

“COMPLAINT AGAINST OFFICER NASH (Patrol Car #7023 C)

Domestic Violence Incident near Frost Bank (28 June 2009 @ 2:15am)

Enclosed please find four sworn affidavits, complaining of Officer Nash (Patrol Car #7023 C) and how he handled – actually, severely mishandled -- a brutal domestic violence incident near Frost Bank on June 28, 2009 @ 2:15am.

There are three important points:

1. First, Nash did not take any steps to apprehend the perpetrator of this terrible abuse regarding which the people who now complain against him had sought police assistance.

2. Officer Nash callously mishandled the situation with regard to the victim of the assault and did not seek to find her a safe place. That had to be done by people of the scene.

3. Officer Nash not only was rude and insolent to everyone on the scene, but even threatened to handcuff and arrest one of our domestic violence attorneys on the scene who was offering advice to the officer about how to comfort her and get information from her about finding and arresting the assailant. The officer’s abrasive and threatening actions were counterproductive.

We intend to appear at City Council on this matter because it reflects not only on Nash’s unacceptable conduct, for which he should be disciplined, but it reflects very badly on how SAPD handles domestic violence situations.”

Peace Corp Pedophilia!

August 13, 2011

Greytown, South Africa (WCJB) -- A former Peace Corps volunteer from Connecticut is charged with sexual abuse of several preschool children in South Africa last year. Jesse Osmun, 31, worked at an AIDS center in Greytown, South Africa, that provided education, food and other services to children between the ages of 3 and 15, a criminal complaint says. Osmun, while volunteering at the center's preschool facility, allegedly sexually molested at least five girls under the age of 6, according to the complaint. The complaint also alleges he engaged in illicit sexual conduct with one of the girls, approximately 5 years old, twice a week for five months.

Osmun (pictured left) was confronted by the AIDS center program manager in May 2011 after a preschool teacher alleged that when she observed him in a toy room of the facility with three little girls, Osmun appeared startled and zipped up his pants. The complaint states that one of the children told a school official Osmun had given her candy in exchange for oral sex. Osmun initially denied any illicit activity but "subsequently admitted that he had touched one of the children under her clothes," the complaint says. It says Osmun asked to resign from the Peace Corps and returned to the United States on June 2, 2011.

An investigation was launched into the sexual allegations, and Osmun was arrested Thursday at his home in Milford, Connecticut, where, the complaint states, "Osmun began to admit that he molested children (at the preschool) and provide details about the molestation." He appeared before a federal judge in Bridgeport and was detained.
Osmun's attorney, federal public defender Sarah Merriam, declined to comment. Osmun would face a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 if convicted of the charge of traveling outside of the United States to engage in sexual conduct with a minor.

"Mr. Osmun is charged with a shocking breach of the power entrusted to him as a Peace Corps volunteer," said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Lanny Breuer. "Allegedly, he repeatedly sexually abused five minor girls under the age of 6 -- horrific crimes."

The Peace Corps issued a statement saying it "was made aware of the allegations against the former volunteer after Osmun resigned from Peace Corps and departed South Africa. Once notified, the agency immediately contacted the appropriate authorities. "The Peace Corps will continue to cooperate with American and South African law enforcement authorities," it said, adding that all Peace Corps volunteers undergo background checks.

"It's us against the world" — said one e-mail.

Police also say the victim seemed to be the focus of the school's investigation early on.

"Check into both students’ background," Lon Sloan, Director of Human Relations wrote in an e-mail on Nov. 10, the day after the assault.

Kelly Covic!

MEDINA, Ohio — A jury found a Medina County teacher guilty on Tuesday, of sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for seducing one of her 14-year-old male students after supplying him with alcohol. Following three hours of deliberations, the jury also found 35-year-old Kelly Covic (pictured above) not guilty of two other counts of sexual battery and two counts of child endangering.

Juror Ronald Greinke told the media, "We all felt that she did something inappropriate and we all came to the conclusion that her statement that everybody was lying was just not true." Greinke said that on one level, it was a case of, "He said, she said." The word of Covic against the claims of her two teenaged accusers. "She accused the boys of not being in her house, yet one of the boys knew exactly what was inside her house," said Greinke.

He told the media, that the jury decided that any of the boys' allegations that could be supported by the testimony of Covic's fellow teachers, in whom she later confided, must be true. "These were very good friends of Kelly and I know one of the gals talked about loyalty versus honesty," said Greinke. "And I guess she finally told the truth on that, but they all basically came up with the same story."

MARTINEZ, CA -- A Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall counselor accused of molesting young male clients pleaded not guilty Tuesday to new charges that bring the number of felony counts he's facing in state court to 73. Thomas Perez Jewell, 53 (pictured below, left) agreed in court that he would not practice as a marriage and family counselor pending the outcome of his Contra Costa County and federal criminal cases and disciplinary action by the state Board of Behavioral Sciences, as was requested by the board.

He is accused of molesting three boys, two of whom were his clients through either the Youthful Offender Treatment Program at Juvenile Hall or his private counseling business, YES Enterprises. Jewell was a longtime intern for Contra Costa County Mental Heath Services and seeking his state therapist license in November when a Martinez police detective said he tracked child pornography to the personal computer at Jewell's Pleasant Hill home. He was charged with 49 felonies related to the images and the first of three boys whom Pleasant Hill police detectives identified as molestation victims.

The 24 additional charges filed Tuesday relate to victims No. 2 and 3, according to Contra Costa County deputy district attorney Dana Filkowski. All of the boys are under age 15, Filkowski said. Jewell's attorney declined to comment. She said she is waiting to receive police reports related to the latest accusations. Of the 73 charges against Jewell in Contra Costa County Superior Court, all but six accuse him of sex crimes against boys. He is also charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, creating child pornography, showing pornography to a minor and dissuading a witness.

Jewell is charged in federal court on separate but related child pornography charges. He has also pleaded not guilty to those charges. Jewell remains in County Jail in lieu of $5.8 million bail. He returns to court next month to set a preliminary hearing date.

MARTINEZ, CA -- A third victim has been identified in the criminal investigation of a Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall counselor already charged with nearly 50 counts of child molestation and child pornography charges, a sex crimes prosecutor said Friday. Thomas Perez Jewell, 53 (pictured left) is being held in County Jail in Martinez in lieu of $5.8 million bail for 49 felony charges related to the first alleged victim identified in an ongoing investigation. Deputy District Attorney Dana Filkowski said she filed a motion Friday to charge Jewell with 24 additional felony charges that relate to a second alleged victim, identified in December, and a third identified this month. All three victims are boys under age 15, Filkowski said. Jewell's attorney could not be reached for comment Friday.

Jewell, a Pleasant Hill resident, is a suspended Contra Costa County Mental Health Services employee who had been counseling young people at Juvenile Hall through the Youthful Offender Treatment Program. He also has a private counseling business called YES Enterprises. Filkowski said two victims were Jewell's clients at either Juvenile Hall or his business.

Jewell was arrested in November after a Martinez police detective said he traced child pornography distributed through peer-to-peer file-sharing software to Jewell's home computer. Police immediately began looking for potential molestation victims based on the images and Jewell's job.

Jewell pleaded not guilty in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez earlier this month to 45 counts of child molestation and two counts of aggravated assault filed in connection with the first alleged victim, as well as one count each of possession and distribution of child pornography. The new charges include 21 counts of child molestation and one count each of creating child pornography, showing pornography to a minor and dissuading a witness, and various charge enhancements.

He has pleaded not guilty in a separate but related child pornography case being prosecuted in federal court. Filkowski said it's unknown whether Jewell will enter a plea on the upcoming charges at his Feb. 8, 2011 court date.

That same day, the state attorney general's office will seek to have Jewell's interim registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences revoked. Jewell was taking steps to get licensed as a marriage and family therapist before his arrest.

MARTINEZ, CA -- A recently suspended Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall counselor pleaded not guilty Thursday to nearly 50 felony child molestation and child pornography charges. The state attorney general's office notified Thomas Perez Jewell at his plea hearing that it is taking steps to revoke his "marriage and family therapist interim registration" with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Jewell, 53, of Pleasant Hill, was attempting to get licensed by the state before his arrest in November 2010. Contra Costa County, which has suspended Jewell, does not require its mental health clinical specialists to be licensed by the state.

Jewell is accused of molesting two boys, ages 12 and 15, who were his clients at either his private counseling business, YES Enterprises, or through the Youthful Offender Treatment Program at Juvenile Hall. He is charged in Contra Costa County with 45 counts of child molestation and two counts of aggravated assault in the case of one boy, as well as one count each of possession and distribution of child pornography. County prosecutors said they expect to file more molestation charges pending further investigation in the case of the second boy, who came forward in December.

Jewell has previously pleaded not guilty in federal court in Oakland to charges of production, transportation and possession of child pornography -- a separate case in which the U.S. attorney's office obtained a grand jury indictment. Jewell's court-appointed attorney declined to comment on either case Thursday.

The cases against Jewell began in November, when a Martinez police detective tracking child pornography through peer-to-peer file-sharing software traced illegal images to Jewell's home computer, according to court documents. A multiagency team then found that Jewell kept 13,000 pornographic images of children, including a county resident, prosecutors said. Pleasant Hill police continue to look for more potential victims through a hot line, and by contacting his former clients and their family members. Police ask anyone with information to call the hot line at 925-676-1273.

Jewell is set to return to a Martinez courtroom on Feb. 8, 2011 to get a preliminary hearing date for the county case, and for a hearing on his state license registration. He remains jailed in lieu of $5.8 million bail.

Arrested On Child Porn Charges!

POSTED: Thursday, February 3, 2011
UPDATED: 6:04 pm EST February 3, 2011

LAKE NONA, Fla. -- An Orange County high school TV production teacher was arrested Thursday on charges of child pornography.

Stephen Wise, 43, a teacher at Lake Nona High School, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. More charges may be coming, and the Orange County Sheriff's Office said there may be more victims.

Authorities said they obtained a warrant to search Wise's east Orange County home after a person arrested in Osceola County on child pornography charges provided information about Wise. Osceola County sheriff's detectives served the warrant and could file charges against Wise, but the Orange County Sheriff's Office will be the lead agency in the investigation.

Orange County sheriff's detectives said at least 100 child porn images were found on Wise's computer. It's not known if he produced the pornographic pictures.

Detectives also said Wise has sent images of children he knows via his computer, but those images were not pornographic in nature.

According to the Orange County Public Schools' website, Wise is also an assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 25.

Orange County Public Schools spokeswoman Kathy Marsh said Wise has been at Lake Nona since 2009 and taught at Odyssey Middle School for three years before that.

Marsh said Wise will not be allowed back on campus until the matter is resolved.

Dozens Sexually Groomed!

Warren Theodore Johnson III, a former teacher at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee has reportedly pleaded guilty to multiple sex charges involving the victimization of several underage female students, both past and present. Under the terms of the plea deal, Johnson will serve two years in prison and another eight on probation. Johnson's Defense attorney said his client had relationships with several female students while teaching at Blackman High School and pleaded guilty to spare the girls testifying at trial. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said there were more than two dozen victims between ages 15 and 17 over the nine years Johnson taught at Blackman. Reportedly, some of the Johnson’s conduct may have been inappropriate but not criminal with some of the girls.

After receiving information, the sheriff’s office opened an investigation Oct. 25, 2010 against Johnson, 33, of Hartford Drive in Murfreesboro about alleged inappropriate and illegal sexual behavior, said lead investigator Detective Sgt. Mickey McCullough. The investigation discovered Johnson was involved in illegal sexual behavior, illegal sexual solicitations both oral, handwritten and through electronic communications, text and email, contributing to the delinquency of minors and legal but inappropriate behavior with dozens of students.

“He was very predatory, selective, calculating and consistent in the manner in which he would seduce, groom and convince each of the young ladies that he was in love with each and every one of them,” McCullough said.

Johnson seduced students with gifts, mix CDs, jewelry, handwritten notes and poetry, oral and written praise, and expressions of love, admiration and affection, the sergeant said.

“He also accomplished this through deception and lies, utilizing fictitious email accounts, user names and passwords and instructing the young ladies to do the same for secrecy,” McCullough said. “Finally, he was successful in convincing each of the young ladies that his marriage was horrific to gain their sympathy.”

Johnson worked as a teacher at Blackman High School from August 2001 until Oct. 27, 2010 when he resigned within hours of McCullough’s first conversation with him. Johnson surrendered his teaching license Monday and is barred from teaching within the U.S. for life and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Mayor Pervo!

January 18, 2010

BAIRDSTOWN, OH (WCJB) - Investigators say the mayor of Bairdstown texted naked and obscene pictures to two teens last month. As a result, Chris Barringer (pictured left) was charged with two misdemeanors last week after two sets of parents in the Wood County village came forward. Kim Brennemen said she thinks Barringer, a family friend of more than 10 years, is sick and needs help. Brennemen said her 13-year-old son, along with a 16-year-old boy, showed her the explicit text messages.

According to court documents, the messages included a picture of a penis with a message that stated "it's a penis with a smiley face -- and do you want a smiley face on yours."

"He's the mayor," said Brennemen. "He took office. He needs to represent the position that he's in and not prey on little young boys." Brennemen said she plans to consult attorneys in an effort to get Barringer removed from office. "If I can't get any more than a misdemeanor out of this, I want every parent to know to keep your child away from Chris Barringer," said Brennemen.

The mayor faces a maximum sentence for the misdemeanor charges of six months behind bars and a $1,000 fine. Wood County Sheriff's Office Deputy Terry James said Barringer did admit to forwarding the photos. "He understands now it isn't funny and we take those matters very seriously," said James. Constituent Augie Allgire, who provided a photo of Barringer from 1978, said she did not want him to continue as mayor.
